A man is suing his divorce attorney after the attorney signed an agreement to give the ex-wife 50 percent of a retirement account.
Donald Ford filed a lawsuit Feb. 20 in the Jefferson County District Court against David B. Bonham and David B. Bonham P.C., citing negligence, gross negligence, breach of duty of fair dealing and breach of fiduciary duty.
According to the complaint, Donald Ford and Cheryl Brown were married in 2008. The complaint states that after filing for divorce, Donald Ford was represented by David Bonham.
Due to the short term of marriage, the final decree made clear that Ford's ex-wife would receive only a fraction of his retirement account, Ford claims in his suit. However, he claims Bonham later signed off on a qualified domestic relations order that allocated 50 percent of his retirement account to Cheryl.
The plaintiff is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages.
He is being represented by attorneys Lance Christopher Kassab and Cletus P. Eruster III.
