A Harris County man is suing over claims the copyright of software he authored is in dispute.
Gordon Mackay filed a lawsuit March 19 in the Houston Division of the U.S. Court for the Southern District of Texas against Theresa Amavi, Tara Templeton Inc. and Blue Orchid Enterprises L.P., formerly known as The Compliance Alliance L.P.
According to the complaint, between 2003 and 2009, Mackay, a computer programmer, authored software for TCA, owned by Amavi, and its parnter, TTI, but in 2009, Mackay went to work for Amavi's son who started a new business.
According to the lawsuit, in 2012, TCA and TTI filed suit against Mackay for misappropriation of trade secrets, fraud and unjust enrichment for claiming ownership of the software Mackay authored. Mackay says he owns the copyright to the work as the author.
Mackay is seeking judicial declaration that he owns the copyright, attorney's fees and court costs.
He is being represented in the case by attorneys Jeffrey W. Wheelock and Jeffrey B. Lawson of Dickinson & Wheelock P.C. in Houston.
