A Houston law firm is being sued over claims an employee was denied maternity leave and fired.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit April 10 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Wayne Wright LLP, a personal injury law firm, citing civil rights violations.
According to the complaint, Kendra Taylor-Andrews was hired by Wayne Wright in 2004 as a case manager and has since always received favorable performance reviews. Taylor-Andrews says that in 2011, when she informed the office she was pregnant, she was advised they could not accommodate a leave of absence and she could choose her last day of work.
According to Taylor-Andrews, when she asked for clarification, she was fired two weeks later. After Taylor-Andrews filed a complaint with the plaintiff, Wayne Wright filed a declaratory judgment action against Taylor-Andrews.
Wayne Wright is accused of pregnancy discrimination and retaliation.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is seeking appropriate backpay and damages for Taylor-Andrews.
It is being represented in the case by senior trial attorney Rudy Sustaita.
