AUSTIN, Texas (Legal Newsline) – For the upcoming May 27 primary runoff, a legal reform group has endorsed two Republican candidates seeking election to the Texas Legislature.
On Thursday, Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC endorsed Konni Burton over former state Rep. Mark Shelton for state senator in District 10.
Currently, state Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic nominee for governor, holds the District 10 seat.
“Konni Burton is a principled conservative,” a TLR PAC press release says.
“As a homemaker, business woman, grassroots organizer and community leader, she will bring important, real-life perspectives to the policy discussions in state government. Ms. Burton is committed to the lawsuit reforms that have helped keep the Texas economy strong and make our state the job-creating engine for the nation.”
District 10 includes part of Tarrant County.
On Wednesday, TLR PAC also endorsed Matt Shaheen in the House District 66 runoff.
At the conclusion of the March 4 primary election, Shaheen captured nearly 49 percent of the vote. His runoff opponent, Glenn Callison, landed 40 percent of the vote.
“Matt Shaheen is an accomplished conservative leader with a solid business background,” TLR PAC says. “He understands the importance of lawsuit reform in creating jobs and strengthening the Texas economy. TLR PAC is proud to endorse him.”
Shaheen currently serves on the Texas Conference of Urban Counties Policy Committee and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department Advisory Committee and is the Collin County commissioner for Precinct 1.
H.D. 66 includes part of Collin County.
TLR PAC is the political arm of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, the state’s largest civil justice reform organization.
