A remodeling company and a roofing company are being sued after allegedly performing negligent construction that resulted in a house fire.
Texas Farmers Insurance Co., as subrogee of Terry Mingle, filed a lawsuit April 28 in the Jefferson County District Court against Mike Louvier, doing business as Mid County Home Remodeling, and Julio C. Melendez, doing business as Triangle Roofing, citing negligence and breach of implied warranty.
The complaint states Mingle hired the defendants to repair a decaying chimney at his residence in April 2013. The plaintiff alleges that due to the defendants improper chimney installation, the Mingle residence caught fire on Nov. 19, 2013.
Texas Farmers Insurance provided homeowners insurance to the Mingle residence and made payments in connection with the fire, according to the complaint.
The plaintiff is seeking more than $200,000 in damages.
Texas Farmers Insurance is being represented in the case by William T. Sebesta and Randall J. Poelma Jr. of Doyen Sebesta Ltd. LLP.
