UPS sued after collision caused by truck parked on highway

Ups

A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he was injured when his car struck a UPS truck parked on the highway.

Cody Lee Copeland filed a lawsuit April 21 in the Jefferson County District Court against United Parcel Service Inc., UPS Ground Freight Inc., doing business as UPS Freight, and UPS.

According to the complaint, Copeland was driving on South Highway 90 near the 5300 block of College Street in Beaumont on May 15, 2012, when the car in front of him changed lanes, revealing a parked UPS truck, which Copeland could not avoid hitting.

The driver of the UPS truck is accused of parking the truck on a highway where vehicles travel faster than 50 mph and failing to display hazard lights.

Copeland is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional minimum.

He is being represented in the case by attorney Timothy E. McKenna.
