A Galveston County woman is suing over claims her former employer slandered her good name and unlawfully terminated her position.

Sherrie Keener filed a lawsuit April 30 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against HCA - Clear Lake Regional Hospital, citing discrimination, fraud and negligence.

Keener claims she worked for the defendant as a social worker from Nov. 13, 2006, to July 26, 2013. According to the suit, Keener is disabled and blind.

The suit claims Keener was not able to take paid time off even though other employers were allowed to and was given unfavorable patients to care for, which she alleges was discrimination based on her disability.

According to the brief, the defendant wrongly accused Keener of falsifying a patient's medical records and she was terminated.

Keener is requesting damages for the defamatory comments, declaratory relief and wants confirmation the comments were false and court costs.

She is being represented in the case by Galveston attorney Anthony P. Griffin of A Griffin Lawyers.
