A commission for the State Bar of Texas is seeking disciplinary action of one of its own along with restitution for a business using legal services.

The Commission for Lawyer Discipline filed a disciplinary petition and requests for disclosure April 16 in the Galveston County District Court against Anthony Paul Griffin, citing professional misconduct.

The petition states Griffin represented Cecil. R. Porter since 2007 in various business and personal legal matters. He was paid approximately $14,200 in August 2009 to defend Porter’s company, PS Fabricators LLC, in a collections suit.

Allegedly, Griffin failed to respond to requests for admissions and a summary judgment of $8,734.11, plus interest, and $2,882.25 in attorneys fees was issued against PS Fabricators.

Additionally, the plaintiff claims Griffin hasn’t kept his client informed on the status of other legal matters, hasn’t produced an itemized billed, failed to respond to discovery in one case and failed to file suit in another although he has been paid in excess of $200,000 plus a truck and lumber, the petition alleges.

Griffin has also demanded another $100,000 to continue working on Porter’s legal matters, the petition claims.

The commission is seeking disciplinary action including reprimand, suspension or disbarment, plus restitution to Porter and court costs.
