A Harris County man is suing over claims his fiancee used him for financial purposes and then called off the engagement.

Howard W. Scoggins III filed a lawsuit May 6 in the Galveston County District Court against Lizbeth Comiskey, citing fraud.

According to the complaint, Scoggins and Comiskey were recently engaged and Comiskey acted as Scoggins's realtor and insurance agent, during which time Comiskey induced him to purchase furniture, clothing and jewelry for her as well as using his bank accounts without his knowledge.

Scoggins says when he began to question the purchases, Comiskey called off the engagement and claimed to have lost the $90,000 engagement ring that she later "found" when an insurance company became involved.

According to the complaint, Scoggins believes Comiskey never intended to marry him and has learned that Comiskey treated previous fiances in a similar manner. Comiskey is accused of common law fraud and conversion.

Scoggins is seeking more than $100,000 in damages.

He is being represented in the case by attorneys John W. Havins and Ky A. Jurgensen of Havins & Associates PC.
