Apartment developer, construction companies face suit after woman trips in Port Arthur

Caution trip

A Jefferson County woman is suing after tripping and falling outside of her apartment complex.

Emily Dobbs filed suit May 20 in the Jefferson County District Court against Realtex Development Corp., Realtex Development Southeast LLC, Colton Commercial USA Inc., M&G Reconstruction, Jerald Geiger Jr., FSC Pavement Marking, Donald Pleasant Sr. and Donald Pleasant Jr.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 17, 2012, Dobbs was walking outside her apartment complex at 3200 Turtle Creek Drive in Port Arthur, owned by defendant Realtex, when she tripped on a sprinkler head and a hole in the ground. She claims the hole was caused by defendants M&G Reconstruction, Colton Commercial and FSC who were working on the sidewalk.

Because of the incident Dobbs claims she was injured, suffered lost wages and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She is accusing the defendants of failing to complete the sidewalk work in a safe manner and failing to warn pedestrians of the hazardous condition.

Dobbs is seeking damages of more than $200,000 and interest.

She is being represented by attorney Cody A. Dishon of Provost Umphrey Law Firm LLP.
