A Louisiana company is suing over claims a naval collision was caused by another company's boat.
Canal Barge Co. Inc. filed a lawsuit May 29 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against M/V Alex D, in rem, and C&J Marine Services Inc., in personam, citing negligence.
According to the complaint, Canal Barge's M/V Lake Charles was proceeding east with barges on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway on Dec. 23, when C&J Marine's M/V Alex D allegedly altered its course contrary to a radiotelephone agreement with the plaintiff, causing a collision with the plaintiff's lead barge.
Canal Barge Company is seeking damages, loss of income and loss of use.
It is being represented in the case by attorney David E. James of Stevens Baldo Freeman & Lighty LLP in Beaumont.
