Edward Jones is filing a petition over two family members' claims to a deceased relative's account.

Edward D. Jones & Co. LP filed a petition in interpleader June 11 in the Galveston County District Court against Debra and William J. Caballero Jr.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 7, William Joseph Caballero Sr. changed the beneficiary of his Edward Jones account to his niece Debra, and the he died Feb. 11. The account held more than $133,000, the suit states.

The complaint says Edward Jones was notified by Caballero's son, William J. Caballero Jr., and his attorneys, that the change of beneficiary was fraudulent, yet on May 23, Debra's attorney requested funds be transferred.

Edward Jones is seeking to tender the assets of the account to the registry of the court.

It is being represented in the case by attorneys Donald R. Littlefield and Kristina L. Cunningham of Ballard & Littlefield LLP in Houston.
