Beaumont couple sues insurer over business fire damage

An insurance company is being sued for allegedly failing to pay for repairs to a Beaumont business. 

Hall-McSween's Canvas & Upholstery Inc., Brett Harrington and Kim Harrington filed suit June 13 in Jefferson County District Court against United Fire Lloyds. 

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs owned property at 1075 Calder St., Beaumont, which was insured by the defendant on Sept. 8, when the plaintiffs submitted a theft/fire damage claim. To date the defendant has failed to pay any part of the claim, stating the incurred damages were not covered by the policy issued to the plaintiffs, the suit states. 

The defendant is accused of breach of contract, violation of the Unfair Competition and Unfair Practices Act, violation of the Prompt Payment of Claims Act and breach of good faith and fair dealing.

The plaintiffs are seeking actual damages, costs and interest. They are represented by Beaumont attorney Rocky Lawdermilk.
