Woman files lawsuit against Walmart after fall

Caution slippery

A woman claims she suffered physical pain and mental anguish when she slipped on a puddle of water while grocery shopping at Walmart.

Johnna Morrison filed a lawsuit July 14 in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Texas Beaumont Division against Walmart.

In her complaint, Morrison alleges she was grocery shopping at the store May 27, 2013, when she slipped and fell on a puddle of water near the frozen meat cooler.

Prior to the injury, an employee of defendant had placed a warning sign near the water, however, this attempted warning was not adequate as at the time plaintiff fell, the warning sign had been shoved underneath the meat freezer and was out of view of the plaintiff and other shoppers, the suit states.

Because of her fall, Morrison incurred medical costs, suffered impairment and sustained disfigurement, the complaint says.

Morison blames Walmart for causing her injuries, saying the store negligently failed to remove the slippery substance and failed to warn it existed on the floor.

Morrison is seeking a judgment of more than $75,000, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

She is being represented by Jill S. Chatelain and Craig J. Tahaney of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele and Chatelain in Port Arthur.
