Property owner asks city of Beaumont for time to rehab condemned property

The owner of property set to be demolished by the city of Beaumont is asking for time to make required repairs.

Andrew Michael filed a petition for restraining orders and injunctions against the city of Beaumont on Aug. 20 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, Michael owns property at 4620 Cartwright Ave., Beaumont. He says the city condemned the property in May 2011 prior to him acquiring the property. Michael says the property is "set for rehab" and is requesting a temporary restraining order to give him "adequate time to bring the property up to the city's standards."

Michael is asking the court to issue a temporary restraining order and a temporary injunction prohibiting the city of Beaumont from demolishing any part of the Cartwright Avenue property.

Attorney Eddie R. Schroeder, of Beaumont, represents Michael.
