Speak Easy Lounge goer moves chair, smashes finger, sues

While hanging out at a Port Arthur restaurant, Georgina Thomas attempted to scoot her chair forward and smashed her finger.

On July 8 she filed suit against Speak Easy Lounge and Restaurant in Jefferson County District Court, claiming the chair was defective.

According to the lawsuit, on June 28, 2014, Thomas was at Speak Easy, allegedly sitting in a defective chair. When she tried to move the chair forward, her fingers got caught and smashed.

She alleges the restaurant negligently failed to supply her with s safe place to sit and warn her of the dangerous condition.

Thomas is suing for her medical expenses, mental anguish, impairment and loss of earnings.

Provost Umphrey attorney James Payne represents her.

Individuals Gregorio Flores, Ken Jones and Joshua Stevens are also named as defendants.

Judge Kent Walston, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case
