Man claims driver caused rear-end collision

A Chambers County resident is suing a Houston resident for allegedly violating traffic laws earlier this year.

Gordan Roberts filed a lawsuit July 9 in the Jefferson County District Court against Rachel Allison Yates, citing vehicular negligence. According to the filing, on Jan. 8, 2015, Roberts was driving eastbound in the 2300 Block of Interstate 10 East in Jefferson County when he reduced his speed as traffic on the Interstate began to slow. His vehicle was then struck from behind by an automobile being driven by Yates who failed to slow down.

Yates is faulted with failing to reduce her speed, keep a proper lookout, apply her brakes in a timely manner or take evasive action.

The suit states that Roberts endured severe injuries to his neck, back and body; physical pain and suffering; mental anguish; medical expenses; physical impairment and disfigurement; lost earnings and future earning capacity.

Roberts seeks damages in excess of $1,000,000, plus court costs and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. He is being represented by attorney Paul Ferguson, Jr. of Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.

Jefferson County District Court case number A-197317.
