Gulf Coast District Homes alleges homebuilder failed to complete project

A custom homebuilder is suing a Galveston-based contractor, alleging he failed to complete a contracted job.

Gulf Coast Custom Homes filed a lawsuit on Aug. 7 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Joe Barron, doing business as Barron Construction, alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 12, 2014, Barron signed a contract stating he would work as a subcontractor on a new Galveston home including framing, siding, cornice, stairs, decks and handrails. The suit says Barron was absent from the project for three hospitalizations and then allegedly stated that due to obligations to another builder he would only be available to work on the project on weekends. The value of the home is approximately $1.3 million, the lawsuit states.

The suit says the contract signed by Barron stated if the work was not completed by March 15, the builder was entitled to receive damages from the contractor totaling $150 per day. The work has still not been completed.

Gulf Coast Custom Homes seeks damages, plus attorney fees and costs. The company is represented by attorney Cris A. Rasco of Rasco Law Firm in Texas City.

Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas case number 15-CV-0819.
