Galvestoncourtresized

A Galveston county woman is suing her landlords after sustaining injuries after falling on an unlit stairwell.

Mary Jones Heczman filed a lawsuit on Aug. 17 in the Galveston County District Court against Juan J. Ventura and Mauro J. Ventura citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 26, 2013, Jones fell while using a stairwell on the outside of the building, located at 1014 51st St., Galveston, where she was a tenant, due to a light that was not working. The Venturas own the property. She alleges that she notified them that the light needed repairs and the complaint was never addressed. Jones sustained major injuries.

Jones is suing for damages exceeding the minimum jurisdictional limit of $200,000 but not more than $1 million. She is represented by Darrell A. Apffel of Bettison, Doyle, Apffel & Guarino in League City.
