Automobile collision trial underway in Jefferson County

An automobile collision trial is now underway at the Beaumont courthouse.

Steven Hebert filed a lawsuit March 17, 2014, in the Jefferson County Court against Larry Webster Rice and Price & Co., citing negligence.

Jury selection began Sept. 8 in Judge Gary Sanderson’s 60th District Court. The trial is expected to conclude by the end of the week, according to a courthouse official.

The original complaint states on Jan. 14, 2014, Hebert was injured while walking along the shoulder of U.S. 69 near the FM 1007 intersection in Jasper County when Rice struck the plaintiff with his vehicle.

At the time of the accident, Rice was operating the vehicle in the course of his employment with Rice & Co., according to the complaint.

The plaintiff will ask the jury to award him damages for loss of love and wages.

Hebert is being represented in the case by attorney Bob K. Monk of the Monk Law Firm.

Attorney John Kilpatrick represents the defendant.
