City of Houston, United Airlines sued over man’s death at Bush Airport

A Ghanaian woman recently filed a lawsuit in response to her husband’s 2014 death from injuries sustained while working on the inter-terminal rail at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

Isabel Alama-Apamibola’s suit asserts Bombadier Transportation System; Bombadier, Inc.; the City of Houston and United Airlines are responsible for the passing of William Coffy.

The litigation began in the Harris County 125th District Court on July 16. The Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas received the case on Sept. 4.

Court papers explain that Coffy was cleaning debris on the inter-terminal rail at IAH’s Terminal C at the direction and under the control of Bombadier Transportation System on Aug. 5, 2014, when an Automatic People Mover “hit or almost hit” the decadent, adding he fell more than 50 feet to the ground.

According to the original petition, the Bombadier defendants failed to provide Coffey a safe workplace, adequate training and adequate fall-protection equipment. The City of Houston is implicated in the event in question because it owns the terminal while United is faulted as a tenant of the city.

Consequently, Alama-Apamibola seeks unspecified monetary damages.

She is representing herself, per Houston federal court records.
