MARSHALL -- A Big Sandy couple is suing General Motors, alleging one of its vehicles was negligently designed.

Mary Carney and George Carney filed a lawsuit Sept. 14 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against General Motors LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 3, 2014, Mary Carney was driving her 2005 Saturn VUE northbound on U.S. Route 271 in Tyler, when she turned in front of another vehicle and the two vehicles collided. The suit says Carney was properly seated and wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision but still suffered serious injuries.

The complaint alleges Mary Carney's vehicle was not crash-worthy and was not reasonably fit for unintended but foreseeable accidents.

The Carneys seek actual, economic and non-economic damages, plus costs of the suit. They are represented by attorneys E. Todd Tracy, Stewart D. Matthews, and Andrew G. Counts of The Tracy Firm in Dallas.
