A Beaumont hospice is suing a Buna woman, alleging violations of a confidentiality agreement signed by the defendant.

Compassion Hospice filed the lawsuit Oct. 14 in Jefferson County District Court against Barbara Michiel Howell.

According to the complaint, Howell signed a confidentiality agreement with the plaintiff, including a non-compete clause and other restrictions regarding sharing trade secrets and confidential information.

The suit says the defendant recently left the employ of Compassion Hospice and she is violating the agreement by working for a direct competitor, Affinity Hospice, and attempting to poach employees from the plaintiff to work with her.

Compassion Hospice seeks a temporary restraining order as well as injunctive relief against the defendant, attorney's fees, court costs and other relief the court deems appropriate. It is represented by attorney John S. Morgan of Morgan Law Firm in Beaumont.

Jefferson County District Court case number B-197712.
