Galveston man says Antigua Apartments' negligence caused him injuries

A Galveston man is suing a local apartment building and its owner, alleging negligence for injuries sustained due to inadequate lighting and a faulty handrail.

Jack Cagle filed a lawsuit Oct. 20 in the Galveston County District Court against The Antigua Apartments, and Jennette J. Hunnicutt, alleging negligently maintaining its property, and violation of Galveston building codes.

According to the complaint, on July 16, 2014, Cagle slipped and fell down the stairs at the Antigua Apartments in Galveston, causing injuries to his neck, head and back. The plaintiff alleges the fall was caused by inadequate lighting and a faulty handrail that bent and broke when he grabbed it in an attempt to stop his fall.

Cagle seeks more than $200,000 in damages. He is represented by attorney Cynthia Huerta of Schecter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris LLP in Houston.

Galveston County District Court Case number 15-CV-1122.
