The U.S. government is suing a Texas woman, alleging acceptance of Veterans Affairs benefits that belonged to her deceased mother.

The United States of America filed a lawsuit July 23 in the Sherman Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Cynthia Moore, alleging wrongful acceptance of benefits.

The complaint alleges Moore wrongfully received benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs from April 2010 to August 2012 and never informed the department that her mother, the legitimate beneficiary of the benefits, had died in March 2010.

The suit says Moore is approximately $43,000 in debt to the plaintiff.

The government seeks to recover the debt, plus interests and costs of the suit.

It is represented by U.S. Attorney John M. Bales and assistant U.S. attorney Robert Austin Wells of Tyler.

Sherman Division of the Eastern District of Texas case number 4:15-cv-00497-ALM.
