Houston woman sues Beaumont to prevent demolition of home

Homedemolition

A Houston woman is suing Beaumont in an effort keep her home from being demolished.

Kimberly Murphy filed a lawsuit Nov. 2 in Jefferson County District Court against the city of Beaumont, filing for a temporary restraining order, temporary injunction and permanent injunction.

On July 7, the suit states, Murphy bought the home at 2420 N. Lynwood Drive, Beaumont, which had been declared a dilapidated structure and scheduled to be demolished by the city. The plaintiff bought the home to remodel and renovate it for future occupancy, thus saving it from demolition, the suit says.

Although it is not clear when the city will begin demolishing the structure, according to the suit, the plaintiff wants to prevent it from being torn down before she has time to repair and remodel it.

Murphy seeks a temporary restraining order against the defendant, a temporary injunction after hearing and a permanent injunction on final trial. She is representing herself.
