A Beaumont motorist is suing another Beaumont driver, alleging negligence for injuries she says she sustained in a vehicle collision.

Karen Alfred, individually and as next friend of minor Ananiah Alfred, filed a lawsuit Nov. 9 in Jefferson County District Court against Micayla Elise Hadnot, alleging negligence.

On April 9, the suit states, Karen and Ananiah Alfred were driving northbound on state Highway 69 in Beaumont and slowed due to traffic. Hadnot, also driving northbound on Highway 69, failed to stop and rear-ended the plaintiffs' vehicle, the suit says.

The suit alleges Hadnot was negligent in failing to timely apply brakes, failing to maintain proper lookout, failing to operate a vehicle in a safe manner, failing to keep a safe distance, failing to control speed and other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, the suit says, Karen Alfred sustained injuries to her neck, shoulder, left hip and body in general, and Ananiah Alfred sustained injuries to her left knee and body in general.

The suit alleges the plaintiffs also sustained pain and suffering, mental anguish, impairment and medical expenses.

The Alfreds seek monetary relief between $100,000 and $500,000. They are represented by attorney Tom Oxford of Waldman Smallwood in Beaumont.

Jefferson County District Court case number E-197786.
