HOUSTON – A Houston man is suing AT&T in an effort to get severance pay following a termination he alleges stems from discrimination.
Anthony D. Canaan filed a lawsuit Dec. 7 against AT&T/Southwestern Bell Telephone in the Houston Division for the Southern District of Texas, alleging breach of contract.
According to the complaint, Canaan, who worked for AT&T from Feb. 19, 1996, to Dec. 13, 2013, was told by his Communication Workers of America union representative that AT&T verbally informed the representative that they are aware of the severance pay violation and will not honor severance pay contract.
The plaintiff was also told, according to the lawsuit, that AT&T is purposely breaching the severance pay contract in an effort to renegotiate the contract.
Canaan seeks approximately $36,000 to $40,000 that the severance pay contract provides as well as $120,000 in punitive damages, plus court costs. He is representing himself.
