GALVESTON— A Jefferson County woman is suing a Galveston bar, alleging she fell from a poorly maintained barstool and was severely injured.
Sharene Bailey filed a lawsuit Jan. 11 in Galveston County District Court against 2-Steppin' Saloon, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on July 20, 2014, Bailey was a guest at 2-Steppin' Saloon when she attempted to sit on one of the barstools. When she moved to sit on the barstool, the suit says, the chair collapsed, causing Bailey to fall to the ground.
As a result of the fall, the lawsuit states, Bailey was injured and incurred medical expenses. Additionally, the suit says the plaintiff has been unable to work and it is likely that she will be affected by her injures in the future. The plaintiff alleges it was the defendant's duty to maintain the barstool and warn customers of risks.
Bailey seeks between $200,000 and $1 million, actual damages, pre and post-judgment costs, as well as costs of the suit. She is represented by attorney Matthew C. Matheny of Provost Umphrey Law Firm LLP in Beaumont.
