HOUSTON - A Harris County man is suing the owners of a Houston business, alleging they did not pay him overtime wages.
Mirza Hyder Ali, individually and for all others similarly situated, filed a class action lawsuit Jan. 27 in the Houston Division of the the Southern District of Texas against AANT Investments, Jafar Ali Shah, Zahir Zia, and Dheeraj Raheja, alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
The suit states that while Ali was employed as a store clerk at the defendants' business, 1960 Corner Food Store in Houston, he was required to work more than 40 hours per week during each week of his employment, and he was paid a fixed wage of $4,000 per month.
The complaint says the defendants did not pay Ali an overtime premium for time worked more than 40 hours per week, and when he complained of his unpaid overtime wages, the plaintiff was terminated in retaliation.
Ali and others in the class seek to recover unpaid overtime wages, compensatory and liquidated damages, interests, injunctive relief, attorney fees and costs of the suit. Ali is represented by attorneys Salar Ali Ahmed and Mizra Hyder Ali of Ali S. Ahmed PC in Houston.
