Galveston woman accuses Houston man of physical attack, false imprisonment

GALVESTON – A Galveston woman is suing a Houston man, alleging he inflicted body injury, emotional distress and false imprisonment during an attack at her home.

Debbie Andrews filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in Galveston County District Court against Raymond Scott Vann of Houston, alleging assault, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 2, 2015, Vann approached Andrews’ front door of her upstairs garage apartment, forcefully entered and immediately began to choke her. When she regained consciousness, the suit says, Vann produced a knife, pinned her to the ground, straddling her with the knife to her throat.

During a struggle, the plaintiff says her right wrist was sliced. Her screams, screamed, the suit says, were clearly audible on several 911 calls placed by neighbors.

When police arrived, according to the lawsuit, Vann picked up the plaintiff and slammed her to the floor repeatedly. At one point, the suit says, he grabbed her hair and dragged her onto the porch and threw her down the stairs.

The plaintiff alleges she suffered physical impairment, mental anguish and property damage.

Andrews seeks damages of at least $1,000, reasonable medical care and expenses totaling $345.33, as well as property damages of $4,780, plus a jury trial. She is represented by attorney Jason R. Hanna of The Estes Law Firm PC in Richmond.
