Customer blames New China Star for fall, injuries

BEAUMONT – A Jefferson County woman is suing a Beaumont restaurant, alleging negligence for injuries she says she suffered from a fall.

Susie Runnels filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in Jefferson County District Court against Beaumont New China Star LLC doing business as New China Star; Tin Xan Kong and Aiping Lin, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on April 5, 2015, Runnels was walking to her vehicle after having lunch at the New China Star restaurant in Beaumont when she tripped on a piece of exposed rebar from a broken cement curb and fell to the ground, suffering extensive personal injuries.

The plaintiff blames the defendant's negligence for her injuries. She alleges 

physical pain in the past and future, mental anguish in the past and future, physical impairment in the past and future, and medical expenses in the past and future.

Runnels seeks a jury trial and damages of up to $500,000. She is represented by attorney Jason L. Cansler of The Law Offices of Jason L. Cansler in Beaumont.
