Ex-employee alleges Academy of Living Literacy failed to pay proper wages

Overtime clock

HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing a Nueces County day care business, alleging unpaid wages and violation of the minimum wage law.

Lisa Perkins filed a lawsuit Feb. 24, in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against The Teaching Express LLC, doing business as the Academy of Living Literacy, and owner Dominick Fabela, alleging failure to pay overtime.

According to the complaint, Perkins did not receive any overtime wages for all her time worked more than 40 hours a week during her employment. The plaintiff alleges the defendants did not comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act by not putting into account the hours worked by plaintiff when computing her wages.

Perkins seeks compensation for all damages and unpaid wages, including interest, legal fees and any further relief as the court see fit. She is represented by attorneys Thomas H. Padgett Jr., Charles L. Scalise and Daniel B. Ross of Ross Law Group in Bellaire and Austin.
