Laborer alleges negligence by Valero, Chevron led to his illness

Chevron

BEAUMONT — A Houston laborer is suing Valero and Chevron, alleging negligence led to his sustaining illness.

Edward Kennedy of Houston filed a lawsuit Jan. 20 in Jefferson County District Court against Valero Energy Corporation, Valero Refining-Texas LP, Valero Refining and Marketing Company, Chevron U.S.A. Inc., and Scaltech International LLC, alleging a hostile work environment, and gross negligence.

According to the complaint, between 1993 and December 2015, Kennedy was exposed to hazardous elements during his employment and was eventually diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The plaintiff alleges the defendants neglected their duties to employees by failing to warn them of the potential risk of being exposed to hazardous elements.

Kennedy seeks more than $1 million, a jury trial, all medical expenses, legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorneys Keith E. Patton and David J. Baluk of Shrader & Associates LLP in Houston.
