BEAUMONT — Two former employees are suing the International House of Pancakes, alleging unpaid wages.
Scarlet Banegas and Odin Campos, for themselves and on behalf of similarly situated employees, filed a lawsuit March 28, in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Bona 1900 Inc. and Hnreck Nazarian also known as Nazarian Enterprises doing business as International House of Pancakes, alleging failure to fairly compensate employees by paying overtime wages.
According to the complaint, between 2013 and Feb. 16, 2016, Banegas and Campos worked more than 40 hours during their employment but were not paid any overtime wages. The plaintiffs allege, to avoid paying any overtime, the defendant paid in checks made payable under pseudonyms and under Social Security numbers not issued to Banegas. The plaintiff says she refused to be paid by check under pseudonyms and, as a result, was not paid any overtime wages.
Banegas and Campos seek a trial by jury, all damages, unpaid wages and overtime wages plus interest, liquidated damages, all legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. They are represented by attorneys T. Lynn Walden and David D. Reynard, Jr. of Waldenreynard PLLC in Beaumont.
