HOUSTON — A Harris County man is suing the city of Houston and police officers, alleging they violated his civil rights in assaulting him.

Joseph D. Roberts Jr. filed a lawsuit April 15 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against the city of Houston, and police officers J.P. Rodgers, D. Ortega, D.A. Solis and C. Grahmann, alleging they used excessive force when attempting to arrest the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, on April 16, 2014, Roberts suffered multiple injuries, some life threatening, when he was arrested. The plaintiff alleges the police used excessive force and deliberately ran over Roberts twice despite clear indications he had never attempted to resist arrest.

The suit says the plaintiff suffered severe injuries, some which could be permanent, and a lifetime of pain and suffering. He also sustained medical expenses and loss of earning capacity, the lawsuit states.

Roberts seeks trial by jury, all damages, interest, legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorneys Kevin M. Madden and Richard Lee, both of Houston.
