HOUSTON— An investigative collaboration by PBS’s Frontline program and NPR recently reported on the Mostyn Law Firm’s battle with insurance companies following Hurricane Sandy.
The report, which aired on May 24, described how firm founder Steve Mostyn learned that insurance companies were denying hurricane victims full compensation.
According to a May 25 press release, the insurance companies engaged in fraudulent behavior, such as falsifying engineering reports.
“It was batten down the hatches and circle the wagons,” Mostyn says in the release. “It was a systematic culture and plan to hold back the losses.”
In 2015, Mostyn’s efforts on behalf of Sandy victims were previously featured on CBS’s 60 Minutes program.
According to the press release, the firm’s “role in seeking justice for Sandy victims” is in keeping with its efforts on behalf of other hurricane and storms victims, including Hurricanes Ike, Rita and Dolly in Texas.
Mostyn reaped hundreds of millions in attorney’s fees suing insurers in the aftermath of the Texas hurricanes.
Since then, Mostyn has been continually bringing lawsuits on behalf of hailstorm victims in the state.
“Time and again, insurance companies have wrongly denied, delayed and unpaid legitimate hurricane claims,” Mostyn said. “Victims are entitled to the money they need to rebuild their homes and their lives after these devastating storms.”
The Mostyn Law Firm and its attorneys are currently engaged in a major civil lawsuit in West Virginia federal court against Boston Scientific over its use of an allegedly counterfeit plastic resin imported from China for use in vaginal surgical mesh.
