HOUSTON – An African-American educator alleges he was denied promotions because of his race at a Kingwood college.

Carl Carey, Ph.D. filed a complaint on June 10 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Lone Star College System, Stephen Head, Shelley Caraway, Katherine Persson and Rebecca Riley citing discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between 2011 and 2014, he was denied of any promotion and noticed that he was constantly being subjected to performance assessments. The suit states he was terminated in February 2015.

The plaintiff holds Lone Star College System, Head, Caraway, Persson and Riley responsible because the defendants allegedly terminated plaintiff based on his race and treated him less favorably among their other employees.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages plus interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Alfonso Kennard Jr. and Michelle Mishoe Miller of Kennard Richard PC in Houston.
