Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 accused of discrimination

GALVESTON – An African-American alleges he was discriminated against because of his race and religious beliefs.

Jeffrey Spriggins filed a complaint on June 14 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 alleging that they subjected plaintiff to discrimination due to his race and religious affiliation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he experienced discrimination from his co-workers because of his Baptist beliefs and was denied of any professional growth while being employed by the defendant. The plaintiff holds Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 responsible because the defendants allegedly did nothing to prevent plaintiff's co-workers discriminating him because of his religion and generally treated plaintiff less favorably when they terminated him on April 17, 2015.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay plus interest, front pay, compensatory damages, liquidated damages, punitive damages, injunctive and affirmative relief, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by John C. Lipps and Bruce A. Coane of Coane and Associates PLLC in Houston.
