BEAUMONT — A motorist is suing Beaumont, alleging negligence when a municipal employee caused car damage.
Khalid Mahmood filed a lawsuit April 18 in Jefferson County District Court against the city of Beaumont alleging negligence when a municipal employee failed to properly secure cargo on his truck, causing it to fall and hit the plaintiff's vehicle.
According to the complaint, on Aug. 1, 2014, Mahmood sustained serious physical injuries when a large fiberglass manhole fell from a truck driven by Christerpher Jones, a Beaumont city employee, and hit the plaintiff's vehicle. The plaintiff alleges the city employee failed to properly secure the manhole onto the vehicle or take certain precautions to make sure that the cargo won't fall off while traveling.
The suit says Mahmood sustained mental and physical pain, disfigurement and impairment.
Mahmoud seeks a trial by jury, damages up to $100,000 plus interest, all legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorneys Jeff Musslewhite and Lori L. Brown of Brown & Musslewhite LLLP in Houston.
