Cowboys star Dez Bryant trashed state senator’s home, property littered with feces suit alleges

DALLAS – State Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, is suing Dez Bryant, alleging the Cowboys’ star receiver inflicted more than $61,000 in damages to his rental home.

Seeking up to $200,000 in damages, West filed the suit June 17 in Dallas County District Court, asserting Bryant refused to “abide by his promises” to him and “accept accountability for his negligent and abusive treatment” of his property.

According to the petition, from September 2013 through January 2016, Bryant resided at West’s property at 1212 Regents Park Court, a 6400 square foot, 6 bed, 7.5 bath home that also boasts a tennis court, swimming pool, and gourmet kitchen.

“Bryant returned the Property to Mr. West in February 2016, however, Mr. West found it in a state of serious disrepair: littered with trash and feces, missing blinds and shutters, with cracked windows and blackened carpeting,” the suit states.

“Mr. Bryant has been unwilling to accept responsibility for the damage, forcing Mr. West to file this suit.”

The parties entered into a lease agreement on Aug. 31, 2013, which West contends Bryant violated.

West attempted to contact Bryant’s representative multiple times about reimbursement until receiving a letter from the receiver’s counsel implying “Bryant would seek to file a separate and unrelated lawsuit against Mr. West should Mr. West pursue collection of the costs of repair any further,” the suit states.

“The allegations made in the letter were vague, unfounded, and clearly intended as retaliatory,” the suit states. “Since February 2016, Mr. West has been unable to relet the Property because of the continuing repair work.”

West is suing for direct and consequential damages, plus attorney’s fees and costs.

He is represented by Michael Gruber of the Dallas firm Gruber Elrod Johansen Hail Shank.
