Disabled employee accuses energy business of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 08

HOUSTON — A disabled employee from Houston is suing an energy company, alleging she was fired illegally.

Latonya Judon filed a lawsuit June 24 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against EP Energy LLC, alleging discrimination, hostile work environment, wrongful eviction, wrongful termination and violations of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Code of Federal Regulations.

According to the complaint, Judon, who suffered a serious vehicle accident Jan. 18, 2014, that left her disabled, was subjected to discrimination and harassment at EP Energy in the form of unwelcome verbal conduct, which involved calling her names due to her disability and being called weak due to her requests to take time off for treatment.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant interfered with her work in creating an intimidating, hostile, and offensive work environment, retaliated against her for filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and terminated her employment June 19, 2016, because of her disability.

Judon seeks a trial by jury, reasonable attorney fees, legal costs and expenses, actual and compensatory damages, reinstatement or front pay, liquidated damages, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest and such other relief as allowed by law. She is represented by attorneys Helen M. Daniel and Kathryn Y. Williams of Daniel, Williams, Associates PLLC in Houston.
