HOUSTON — An African-American woman from Burleson County is suing her former employer, alleging she was subjected to discrimination.

Shakanda “Connie” Pratt of Somerville filed a lawsuit July 15 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Baylor Scott & White Health, alleging violations of the anti-retaliation provisions of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Pratt was maltreated because of her color, was held to different workplace standards, was wrongfully accused of violating Baylor Scott & White Health's dress code and was discriminated against. The suit said this led to the loss of employment Sept. 10, 2014, and impairment of her wages, benefits, privileges, and terms and conditions of her employment.

The plaintiff alleges Baylor Scott & White Health intentionally interfered with her work performance, retaliated against her for opposing discrimination and terminated her employment.

Pratt seeks a trial by jury, an injunction enjoining the defendant from engaging in discrimination, reinstatement or front pay, compensatory damages, attorney fees, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest and such other relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by attorney Katrina Patrick of the Law Offices in Houston.
