Worker alleges League City business' negligence caused injuries

Slip01

GALVESTON — A Webster City woman is suing a League City business, alleging the defendant's negligence caused her to fall and sustain injuries.

Emelina Rivas filed a lawsuit Aug. 10 in Galveston County District Court against Regent Care Center of League City, alleging negligence in failing to provide with a safe working environment.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 21, 2015, while Rivas was working at Regent Care Center, she slipped and fell striking the hard floor. The suit says the fall caused serious injuries to Rivas' head, neck and back that required medical care and treatment.

The lawsuit states Rivas suffered physical pain and mental anguish, loss of physical capacity and medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to warn her the carpet was wet and failed to make the condition reasonably safe.

Rivas seeks trial by jury, judgment up to $100,000, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees, court costs and all relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by attorneys Joshua P. Davis, Katherine Ray and Jason Beesinger of Davis Law Group in Houston.
