Patient alleges health care provider's negligence led to injuries

Medical malpractice 04

BEAUMONT — A Silsbee man is suing a health care provider, alleging its negligence led to the plaintiff suffering injuries.

Kevin Edward Reed filed a lawsuit Aug. 10 in Jefferson County District Court against Baptists Hospitals of Southeast Texas alleging negligence in failing to provide an acceptable standard of nursing care.

According to the complaint, on July 9, 2014, Reed underwent surgery at defendant's facility in Beaumont. The suit says he sustained right radial nerve palsy secondary to swelling and needed occupational therapy to regain full use of his right arm.

To date, the lawsuit states, Reed continues to suffer pain and disfigurement and has not regained full use of his right arm. The plaintiff alleges Baptists Hospitals of Southeast Texas failed to provide a safe environment, failed to meet the nursing standards of supervising unlicensed staff and failed to asses, document and timely report a change in patient's condition to a physician.

Reed seeks trial by jury, all damages, costs of court, pre- and post-judgment interest and all relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by attorneys Mark A. Weycer and Jennifer E. Sheedy of The Weycer Law Firm PC in Bellaire.
