Building engineer accuses former employer of racial discrimination

SHERMAN — A black Collin County building engineer is suing his former employer, alleging racial discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Amondo Coleman filed a lawsuit Aug. 18 in the Sherman Division of the Eastern District of Texas against CBRE Inc., alleging violation of his rights guaranteed under the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of the defendant’s conduct, Coleman has suffered economic and actual damages, including lost income and benefits, emotional pain and suffering, inconvenience, mental anguish and injury to his professional standing. 

The plaintiff alleges CBRE engaged in an unlawful employment practices by discriminating and retaliating against him for participating in protected activities and terminated his employment July 22, 2014.

Coleman seeks trial by jury, damages, reinstatement or, in the alternative, front pay, attorney fees, court costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and all other relief. He is represented by attorney Kell A. Simon of The Law Office of Kell A. Simon in Austin.
