Member of armed forces accuses Houston company of unlawful termination

Wrongful term 01

HOUSTON — A member of the armed services is suing a Houston company, alleging unlawful termination.

Jeremiah Wright of Webster filed a lawsuit Sept. 1 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against J.A.M. Distributing, alleging violation of the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Wright, who was hired by J.A.M. in November 2013 as an inventory control analyst, was subjected to adverse employment actions because of his military status. The suit says he was terminated Dec. 29, 2015, causing him to suffer emotional distress and financial damages.

The plaintiff alleges J.A.M. Distributing's manager expressed displeasure over Wright's five-month absence for initial entry training to the military.

Wright seeks trial by jury, declaration the defendant's conduct violated USERRA, enjoining the defendant from discriminating on the basis of military status, reinstatement, compensatory damages, attorney fees, court costs and all other relief. He is represented by attorney Famose T. Garner of Houston.
