Widow blames automobile manufacturer for husband's death

Car accident 03

HOUSTON — A Longview woman is suing Fiat/Chrysler, alleging its negligence caused her husband to be killed in an auto crash.

Isabel Vega, individually and as wrongful death beneficiary of Adolfo Balceiro Perez, deceased, filed a lawsuit Sept. 22 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against FCA US LLC, alleging the automobile manufacturer failed to comply with Motor Vehicle Safety Act requirements.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 25, 2015, Adolfo Perez was driving home with a defective and recalled 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck when it went out of control and rolled over multiple times. The suit says the seat belt failed, causing Perez to sustain injuries that resulted in his death on Christmas morning.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to provide a crashworthy vehicle, failed to equip the vehicle with side curtain/rollover airbags and failed to provide proper restraint.

Isabel Vega seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of suit and all other relief. She is represented by attorneys Bradley L. Leger and Kassi Dee Patrick Marks of Leger Ketchum & Cohoon PLLC in The Woodlands.
