GALVESTON — Two Galveston County property owners are suing an insurance company and an adjuster, alleging failure to cover water damage in their home.
Steven and Maya Yoes of League City filed a lawsuit Sept. 23 in Galveston County District Court against Texas Farmers Insurance Company and William Sloan, alleging Farmers failed to adequately train and supervise Sloan.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 16, 2015, the Yoes' washing machine malfunctioned, causing it to overflow and create substantial water damage to the interior of the plaintiffs' property in League City. They filed a claim in accordance with the terms of the policy, the suit says, but they suffered further damages when their claim was improperly adjusted and denied in part.
The plaintiffs allege Sloan failed to perform a thorough investigation of the Yoes' claim and neglected to assess the extensive water damage on the plaintiffs' property.
Steven and Maya Yoes seek trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, attorney fees, court costs and expenses, pre- and post-judgment interest and all other relief to which they are entitled. They are represented by attorneys Andres Arguello and Philip K. Broderick of Arguello, Hope and Associates PLLC in Houston.
