BEAUMONT — A Port Arthur man is suing a Texas company, alleging the defendant's negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Juan Vega filed a lawsuit Sept. 20 in Jefferson County District Court against Arendal S. De RL De CV, alleging failure to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on June 16, Vega was an employee of Gulf Copper, working as a welder aboard the vessel Texas Tobola. While walking through the engine bay area, the suit says, Vega fell over fire blankets that obstructed his pathway.

The lawsuit states he fell several feet to the deck below, causing severe injuries to his body. The fall resulted in pain and suffering, disfigurement and lost wages, the complaint says. The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to provide sufficient lighting, failed to discover and remove the hazardous condition and failed to properly train its crew.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, costs of court and all other relief to which he is justly entitled. He is represented by attorneys Jon B. Burmeister and Tommy L. Yeates of Moore Landrey LLP in Beaumont.
